:bios
always sound so morbid, like a eulogy. it's true. the
only difference is the bit where they talk about the survivors. Born
and raised in rural Ohio, I landed on to the scene in columbus, armed
with a $12000 scholarship to CCAD. in 1997 i graduated from there with
a b.f.a. i continue to paint, write & do commission work for a variety
of folks. occasionally gathering enough work for a show.
something i found out early on is you can't be fixed into one box. the
modern art hussle incompasses both commercial work as well as gallery
time. together. the lines blur. which is how it should be. i generate
fetish items. tactile things you can wear, read, hang on a wall.
:BLIPS&CODES
inherently,
i hate explaining my work. it short-changes the experience of viewing
the pieces. everyone views the work differently, bringing their own
experiences to the piece. i explore a bold and subtle use of color.
whole worlds pour out of the brush onto the canvas or bristol. old symbology
taken from childhood (and pop culture) is reimagined. i think an image
is a success where you can't quite tell what was used. it looks familiar
but different. i am constantly facinated by man's explanation of the
unknown. painting over previous strokes. layering. covering up areas
once explored. i like that duality.
in story, we are building up myths. whether blatant or not
fully realized. it's impossible to fully detach ourselves from the details.
you could say that ophelia is looking into a dark reflection of herself
but was that really the writer's intent? or ours? is cheney really an
imperialistic asshat hell bent on wiping his ass with the constitution?
well he, is but that's not my point.
_ i'm still
in ohio, though in a better part of it. i reside by a graveyard down
by the river. chillin'.
REPRESENTATION/ update 2010)
currently i am not represented by any gallery or agency. i'm open to
gallery representation. not so open to art/illustration reps. i personally
handle my work for clients. if you are a gallery, and you'd like to
talk: give me a buzz or shoot me an email. i'd love to hear from you.
